Murter-Tisno

Some 30 km west of Sibenik you'll find one of the most magical locations in  the county - the island of Murter. It's connected to mainland by Tisno bridge, which opens up 2 times a day, to let the ships pass the narrow canal. If you happen to be there at the time, you'll have to wait for about half an hour (it lifts up at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.) Tisno, Betina, Jezera and Murter are all true examples of genuine Dalmatian places that will hypnotize you with it's old stone streets, houses, churches ( Madonna of Caravaggio in Tisno, the Chappel of St Roko from the 18th century, St Michael's, Madonna of Gradine in Murter).

Murter has some of the most amazing beaches on Sibenik's coastline, Cigrada, Slanica, Podvrske and Kosirina being the most famous ones. In the town of Murter you can find some of the best restaurants on the Adriatic coast - the most famous probably being Tic Tac. This amazing restaurant is hidden in a small street in the center of town. Just ask the locals, they all know where it is. The perfect atmosphere and pretty unique dishes like tuna fish sushi, lobster, monkfish with capers in wine, brudet (fish stew), cuttlefish soup, fish in salt straight from the bread oven, carob cake and many others. The place also has a good selection of vines. Just make sure you book your table in time, because it's always full.

The organizators in Murter always make sure you don't get bored in summer. There's a whole variety of events: from classical music concerts, rock concerts, DJ and foam parties, to 'Murter rock fest' which takes place at the end of July in a fascinating scenery of Cigrada bay. Juliette Lewis, Ian Paice, TBF, Let 3, Hladno pivo are only some of well known foreign and Croatian music names hosted by this festival. A definite must see! Tisno is a perfect example of a genuine Dalmatian place that will put you under its spell and make your staying here unforgettable. Gorgeous little stone streets, houses, churches, cultural and entertaining events (The Garden Festival), some of the best restaurants in the area, beautiful, crystal clear sea. Climb up the 'Karavaj Street' (214 stairs) at Broscica Hill and visit Madonna of Karavaj shrine, where you'll get an amazing view of the place and one part of the island. In the old days pilgrims used to cross this path on their knees, in order to fulfill their vows.
